The United States has emerged as a global leader in diaspora policy and communications with the establishment of the Global Diaspora Forum under then U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (2011). Since the onset of the forum, the United States has developed innovative and sustainable policies designed to develop and enhance their presence as a global leader. There is a strong diaspora legacy in Ireland, which has been a key influence in shaping U.S. policy in this area. There has been very little academic engagement with these matters and this programme would be an opportunity for American students to get a unique perspective on this emerging discussion in both the United States and Ireland.
The MA is unique as it will engage with key stakeholders in diaspora issues including public and private practitioners. In addition, the MA is fundamentally interdisciplinary in its approach, with course offerings that stretch across the Social Sciences and the Humanities. There is no programme like this in Ireland, and the long history and strong profile of the Irish diaspora makes UCD an ideal location to attract students internationally.
UCD International is offering 4-5 full tuition Graduate Global Excellence Scholarships to US students across Colleges
