This interdisciplinary programme in the study of gender and sexuality crosses the humanities and social sciences. Alongside core theoretical modules, it enables specialism in social scientific or humanities based scholarship addressing gender in culture and society. A seminar series accopmanies the MA programmes and many students progress onto the PhD programme which is supported by the Gender, Culture & Society @UL PhD Forum.
This MA addresses questions of scholarship and politics that are global in reach as topics of diaspora, multiculturalism, comparative literature and identity are addressed as these relate to gender and sexuality in multiple global contexts. Students specialising in social science approaches gain a strong grounding in metholologies and have access to the UL Winter School in methodologies. Dissertation supervision enables students to develop skills in research and expertise in a particular topic. The approach to teaching is inclusive and student centred, emphasizing creative learning and a tailoring of teaching input to individual student interests and aspirations.
